RECESS MEETING OF OCTOBER 2, 2002

 

 

A Recess Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs was called to order by Mayor Ainsworth at 6:00 p.m. on October 2, 2002, at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs.  Present were Aldermen Jalanivich, Lloyd, McDonnell, Cody, Dalgo and Gill, City Attorney Oscar Jordan, City Clerk Adrienne Howell and Deputy City Clerk Diane Northrop.  Alderman Carvin was absent.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

(Resolution Determining Necessity for Lot Cleaning – 328 Teringo Circle)

 

Motion by Cody, seconded by Gill, to adopt the above and foregoing Resolution.

(2003 CDGB Administrative Agreement)

 

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Cody, to approve the 2003 CDBG Administrative Agreement with Jimmy G. Gouras, Urban Planning Consultants, Inc. and authorize the Mayor to sign said agreement on behalf of the City.

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Gill, to go into Closed Session to determine the necessity for an Executive Session.

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Cody, to go into Executive Session to discuss the potential purchase, acquisition or lease of land.

The City Clerk announced to the audience that the Board had elected to go into Executive Session to discuss the potential purchase, acquisition or lease of land.  She then left the meeting.

 

The Executive Session began at 6:05 p.m.  The Parks Director, Park Commission, City Attorney, Demary Grubbs, and Architect Carl Germany joined the Board in Executive Session.  Mr. Grubbs left the meeting at 6:50 p.m. and the Executive Session ended at 7:15 p.m.

 

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Cody, to resume the Regular Session.

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Dalgo, to enter into negotiations with Fred Lemon for the purchase of 10 acres at the corner of Deena and Groveland Roads for the purpose of recreation.

Motion by Dalgo, seconded by Cody, to form a committee consisting of the City Attorney, Aldermen Jalanivich and Gill, Keith Zirlott, Robert Dalgo, Damien McKay and Chuck Bordis, to review the requirements of the City and determine what is necessary to secure the property, and to make a final recommendation to the Board of Aldermen before finalizing the deal and moving forward.

Audience Request

 

Civil Defense Director Mark Hare reported that the City of Ocean Springs could expect winds of 34-45 miles per hour from Hurricane Lilly and advised that the Gautier Convention Center had been opened as a shelter for Jackson County.

 

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Cody, to recess until 6:00 p.m. on October 15, 2002.
